The panorama table is an interactive touchscreen installation shown in the voestalpine Stahlwelt museum in Linz. It has been created by nerdybirdy under supervision of the Linz-based agency RecFex and enables the museum’s visitors to explore the area surrounding the voestalpine company grounds. The panorama table was installed in October 2013 and is still (September 2015) part of the exhibition.
The installation consists of a digital representation of a high-resolution picture shown in printed form on a museum wall which can be panned and zoomed for viewing every little detail of the picture. The main challenge for nerdybirdy was to enable a smooth user experience when exploring the 624 megapixel image on a non-high-end PC used for running the app.
