Installation "Nite of the Bricks"

On the 26th of June 2015, Creative Region Upper Austria organized an event named “Nite of the Bricks“, honouring the creative influence that LEGO had (and still has) on creators of all ages. Keynotes of some of the driving minds behind the brand itself, discussions with other key players in the creative industries, the presentation of a book about Creative Region, some mini golf action, music, food and drinks – it was all there.

As part of the event, nerdybirdy created an installation that enabled visitors to participate in an interactive projection on the walls of the Tabakfabrik Linz. They could do this by simply navigating to a website on their smartphones which then showed the interface of a remote control they could use to add bricks to the current construction visible on the facade. One could say that the feeling of collaboratively building something out of LEGO together was transformed into the virtual world.

Another thing worth mentioning is that the visitors didn’t have to connect to a special wifi spot to participate – as mentioned, all they had to do is call a website on their smartphones.

Special thanks to madhou5e for filming and dort.tv for airing the output of the installation live.
